Tragic Incident: Crew Member Falls Overboard from the Olza in North Sea
On November 23, 2015, tragedy struck as a crew member aboard the freighter Olza fell overboard in the North Sea, approximately 25 kilometers northwest of Vlieland. The incident was reported to the Dutch Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) after the individual had been unaccounted for for two hours. In response, lifeboats from Den Helder, de Cocksdorp (Texel), and Vlieland, along with two helicopters, a coastguard aircraft, and the Dutch Navy ship Zr. Ms. Karel Doorman, launched an extensive search operation. Despite their swift efforts, the man was discovered at 4:45 PM and retrieved by a rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) from Zr. Ms. Karel Doorman. Unfortunately, attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.
