In a dramatic maritime rescue, the cargo ship SCL Basilea altered its course near the Cape Verde Islands to assist the distressed sailing yacht, MAGRITTE. The 13.4-meter Moody Grenadier 134, which is registered in the UK, was participating in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) and was traveling from Gran Canaria to St Lucia when it encountered a critical situation and began taking on water. Following a distress signal, a MAYDAY was broadcast, prompting MRCC Cape Verde to coordinate the crew's evacuation. The SCL Basilea arrived at the yacht's location around 0500 UTC on Thursday, December 3rd. Thankfully, all crew members were safely rescued and are now in good health aboard the SCL Basilea, which is currently heading toward Spain. The MAGRITTE was left abandoned at coordinates 16 44.36N 027 27.82W.
