Oban Lifeboat Responds to Engine Fire Incident Near Lismore Lighthouse

Mar 14, 2018 11:49

On March 13, in the early afternoon, the Oban lifeboat was deployed to provide assistance to the 'Ronja Skye', a fish carrier experiencing a significant engine room fire. As the dedicated RNLI crew made their approach, they received news that the fire had been successfully extinguished, thankfully without injuries; however, the vessel was left with a complete engine failure. In response to the situation, the CalMac ferry, 'Isle of Mull', changed its course to stand by, while a local workboat had also attempted a tow. The Oban lifeboat arrived at the scene at 2:21 p.m., finding the 'Ronja Skye' situated west of Lismore lighthouse and at risk of drifting dangerously close to the shore. The RNLI crew promptly established a tow for the stricken vessel and guided it to a secure location where the 'Ronja Skye' could anchor safely for necessary repairs. Once the vessel was confirmed to be secure, the Oban lifeboat concluded its mission and returned to its temporary berth, ready for any further service by 4:30 p.m. For more details, visit the report with accompanying photo at Oban Times.
