Disabled Survey Vessel 'Ocean Observer' Successfully Towed to Lerwick
On May 1, 2019, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the survey vessel 'Ocean Observer' encountered a significant challenge when its 1200-meter-long survey cables became entangled with the propellers during operations at its designated survey site. The ship was immobilized at coordinates 59°19'00" N, 001°27'00" E by 23:26 hours on the same day. It's important to note that there were no engine malfunctions reported, with the ship maintaining only bow thruster functionality. The crew aimed to navigate to Lerwick to facilitate diver intervention for the retrieval of the obstructed cables. Fortunately, the 'Ocean Observer' was successfully towed by the tugboat 'Ievoli Black' (IMO: 9439242) and is expected to arrive at Lerwick by 10 a.m. on May 3.
