On June 24, 2017, the bulk carrier 'Ocean Phoenix,' laden with 45,000 tons of clinker, experienced a troubling incident at Chittagong's outer anchorage when she began to drift after her anchor dragged. As the situation unfolded, the vessel became unable to hoist her anchor due to the rudder or propeller getting caught in the entangled anchor chain. This unfortunate turn of events led to an allision with the stern of another bulk carrier, the 'Green Phoenix,' which was also carrying clinker at the time. Following the collision, the 'Ocean Phoenix' sustained a breach in her hull on the starboard side within cargo hold No. 4, resulting in water ingress and subsequent flooding of the hold. The vessel's aft settled on the seabed as salvage operations commenced to seal the breach to facilitate dewatering efforts. In addition to the damage sustained by the 'Ocean Phoenix,' the 'Green Phoenix' also lost an anchor during this incident.
