Indonesian Crew Sought for Alleged Diesel Theft from Ocean Pride
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) is on the lookout for 12 Indonesian crew members from the vessel 'Ocean Pride', believed to be implicated in a significant diesel theft. This incident, which transpired on October 5, 2021, involved the alleged pilfering of 1.8 million liters of diesel fuel, amounting to RM4.86 million or approximately Rp16.4 billion. Nurul Hizam Zakaria, the director of APMM Johor, revealed that a red notice has been issued by Interpol on December 22, 2021, concerning the thieves. The crew members vanished after abandoning the Ocean Pride in the waters of Tanjung Siang, Kota Tinggi, Johor. On the day of the incident, the ship had departed from Singapore, headed towards Dili, Timor Leste, carrying a full crew. However, by 1 p.m., APMM received a tip-off about a suspicious vessel attempting a robbery located 23.6 nautical miles east of Tanjung Siang. Upon arrival, investigators discovered the ship empty, with no crew in sight, and found that the valuable cargo of over 1.8 million liters of diesel had been stolen. As the search for the crew continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice.
