Legendary Yacht 'Octopus' Hits the Market for €295 Million
Renowned yacht brokers Fraser and Burgess have placed the iconic 'Octopus' on the market with an asking price of €295 million (approximately $325.2 million). Originally commissioned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, this magnificent vessel was built 16 years ago in Kiel, Germany. Following Allen's passing in 2018, many of his renowned possessions, including the largest aircraft in the world crafted by his aerospace venture Stratolaunch, were made available for sale. Just last week, the 'Octopus' joined this prestigious list. As one of the largest private superyachts globally, it accommodates up to 26 guests and 63 crew members. This year, the yacht underwent an extensive refit and boasts a plethora of luxurious amenities such as a swimming pool, hot tub, spa, bar, and gym. In addition to these standard luxuries, 'Octopus' features extraordinary highlights including a custom recording studio, a cinema, a glass-bottom underwater observation lounge, elevators, and even a basketball court, making it a floating paradise for its future owner.
Discovery of WWII Battleship Musashi Wreck by Paul Allen
On March 3, 2015, billionaire and Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen announced a remarkable discovery: the wreckage of the "Musashi," an iconic battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy. This historic vessel sank in the Sibuyan Sea, Philippines, during a fierce battle in October 1944, part of the cataclysmic events of World War II. The Musashi, alongside its sister ship the "Yamato," held the title of the largest battleships ever constructed during that time. Tragically, while en route to Leyte Island, the ship succumbed to enemy fire, resulting in the loss of more than 1,000 of its 2,399 crew members. Allen's ship, the "Octopus," which is equipped with both a deep-sea exploration submarine and advanced remote-operated technology, successfully located the wreckage at a depth of one kilometer on March 2. The news was further enhanced with stunning images captured from the seabed, showcasing this significant find.
