On May 11 at 10:45, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Bodø received an urgent alert regarding an engine room fire on a catamaran carrying two crew members. In response, the car ferry "Ørnes" was dispatched to the scene to provide assistance. Upon arrival, the ferry maneuvered alongside the distressed catamaran, ensuring a safe evacuation for the crew. Shortly thereafter, the RITS group, specializing in maritime rescue operations, was deployed via a Sea King rescue helicopter from Bodø. After the smoke divers were hoisted onto the ferry, they promptly assessed the situation aboard the catamaran. Thankfully, they discovered that the fire had been extinguished, leaving only residual smoke. The divers cooled down the engine room, successfully regaining control of the incident. In the aftermath, the catamaran was able to travel to Ørnes Road using one of its two engines, as it had suffered damage during the incident. Fortunately, both crew members were unharmed.
