Olga S Faces Year-Long Port Ban Following Multiple Detentions

Feb 17, 2026 11:24

In a significant move, the 'Olga S', managed by Regency Ship Management based in Istanbul, has been barred from docking at European ports for an entire year. This decision follows a troubling history of the vessel being detained three times due to severe defects, with the latest incident occurring in Rotterdam. On January 9, 2026, the ship was apprehended by Port State Control, marking the third detention in just 36 months within the Paris MOU jurisdiction. As a result, the vessel is now prohibited from accessing any ports or anchorages within this maritime safety area. Despite the ban, the 'Olga S' was permitted to depart Rotterdam on January 29, setting course for Tuzla, with an estimated time of arrival on March 1. The vessel has garnered a notorious reputation for its poor maintenance standards and frequent name and flag changes, having previously been known as 'Casablanca', 'Olga', and 'Saar Casablanca'. Between 2022 and 2024, the 'Olga S' had already faced detentions in multiple European ports, including a significant incident in Heraklion in 2023. Authorities flagged critical safety deficiencies for the ship, including inadequate lifesaving equipment, a lack of a proper firefighting plan, main engine issues, and various electrical faults. Just under a year later, the vessel was again detained in Chioggia while sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Initially banned from entering port for three months, this prohibition later extended to a full year. Consequently, the 'Olga S' was not cleared to dock in Europe again until August 2025. Since that time, it has faced further detentions, raising serious concerns about its operational compliance and safety standards.
