On January 9, 2025, the vessel 'Olympic OS' faced detention at Gemlik due to an alarming 58 deficiencies, 30 of which were classified as serious enough to warrant such action. Key deficiencies included the absence of crucial documentation such as the International Oil Pollution Prevention certificate and the International Ship Security Certificate. Further issues were identified in the ship's operation and safety protocols, including: - An auxiliary engine that was not only missing but deemed inadequate and unapproved. - Safety of navigation deficiencies with outdated charts and expired nautical publications. - Life-saving appliances, including lifeboats that were not ready for use and inoperative launching arrangements for the survival craft. - Fire safety was critically compromised with missing and poorly maintained fire fighting equipment, alongside inoperative fire detection systems. - Pollution prevention systems including a malfunctioning Ballast Water Management System and an outdated management plan were also highlighted. In terms of structural integrity, various water-tight covers, doors, and ventilators were found not properly maintained or even cracked, raising serious safety concerns. The ISM certificate was also flagged for not meeting required standards. Following thorough inspections and necessary rectifications, the 'Olympic OS' was released from detention on January 17, 2025.
