As a result, the project is expected to experience an additional two to three days of unscheduled maintenance. The completion date for the dredging project has now been pushed back to Christmas Day, December 25, 2011, rather than the previously slated date of December 21. Since the project commenced on October 1, 2011, approximately 2.5 million cubic meters of seabed material have already been excavated. The overall $37 million initiative aims to deepen the nine-kilometre access channel by removing more than four million cubic meters of materials, reaching a target depth of about 17 meters.
