Successful Medevac Operation Near Richards Bay Coast

May 21, 2018 13:06

On May 20, 2018, at 06:30 a.m., the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) lifeboat 'Spirit of Round Table II' was deployed to conduct a medical evacuation off the coast of Richards Bay. This operation was prompted by a distress alert issued on May 19 at 8 p.m., resulting in a coordinated response to assist a Filipino crew member aboard the 'Nord Sirius'. Upon reaching the designated anchorage, the 'Nord Sirius' had already lifted anchor and positioned itself to create a sheltered environment for the lifeboat. An ICE Medical Rescue paramedic and an NSRI rescue swimmer boarded the vessel, where they found the 23-year-old patient experiencing anxiety. After providing necessary medical assistance, the paramedic secured the patient in a Stokes basket stretcher for safe transfer. The patient was then escorted onto the lifeboat, which transported him to the NSRI base without any complications, accompanied by a fellow crew member. Following the transfer, an ICE Medical Rescue ambulance was on standby to take the patient to the hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition under the supervision of paramedics. Nord Sirius Stranded Off Morocco Due to Cargo Volatility Issues

May 08, 2017 18:53

The cargo ship Nord Sirius has been stuck off the coast of Morocco since May 2, 2017, after encountering difficulties with its cargo. Loaded with 75,000 tons of Russian thermal coal, the vessel was headed for the Jorf Lasfar Energy Company (JLEC) but failed to meet the required dry volatile matter criteria. The coal’s volatility measured at 38, surpassing JLEC's maximum acceptable limit of 35. Since its departure, the Nord Sirius has been operating in staging movements. The shipment was originally loaded in Ventspils on April 20, with the coal supplied by Trafigura, a London-based trading firm, following a buy tender awarded to them by JLEC at a price in the mid-$80s per metric ton a few weeks prior.
