An oil spill occurred off Changi during a bunkering operation involving the tanker 'Pacific Spirit' and the bulk carrier 'Ines Corrado' (IMO: 9602772) on October 28, 2024, at 5:40 PM. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) received immediate notification regarding the spill, which resulted from an overflow during the transfer of oil between the licensed bunker tanker and the receiving vessel. An estimated five tonnes of oil were discharged, prompting an immediate halt to all bunkering activities. Upon arrival at the site, MPA personnel deployed dispersants to mitigate the impact. Additional government agencies have been notified to monitor potential oil sightings along the shores. Fortunately, the spill did not affect navigational traffic in the area. By October 29, authorities confirmed that there were no visible traces of oil in the surrounding waters or on the coast. To enhance recovery efforts, a Current Buster has been positioned off Changi to collect any oil that may surface. The MPA has also engaged Malaysian authorities to assist in monitoring for any oil presence. As of November 1, the 'Ines Corrado' was noted to be stationary at position 01° 17' N 104° 00' E.
