On October 25, 2023, at approximately 09:10 a.m. UTC, the Port Authority of Kavala received notification regarding an incident involving the vessel 'Panagia Thasou'. The ship was preparing to embark from Eleftheres Port, destined for Prinos Thassou, carrying a load of 12 drums and accompanied by 12 crew members responsible for the cargo. During this process, the vessel experienced damage to its landing platform, which compromised its ability to safely lift and secure the cargo. Following the incident, the drums and their attendants were promptly disembarked for safety. A subsequent inspection by the Local Ship Inspection Unit confirmed the damage, prompting the Port Authority to issue a sailing prohibition until a class maintenance certificate is obtained from the classification society overseeing the vessel's safety and operational standards.

On June 5 at 7:15 p.m., the ferry "Panagia Thassou" found itself moored in Prinos Thassou Port after experiencing a critical mechanical malfunction in its starboard side main engine while en route from Kavala. Due to this unfortunate incident, the Port Department of Thassos has prohibited the vessel from resuming its operations until the necessary repairs are completed. Additionally, the ferry must provide a certificate of seaworthiness from its classification society before it can return to its scheduled route.
