Tragic Discovery Aboard 'Papa Mau': Crew Member Found Deceased

Sep 09, 2020 11:37

In a somber incident reported on the morning of September 9, 2020, the Port Authority of Guam received alarming news regarding a crew member aboard the 'Papa Mau' who was discovered deceased in his cabin while navigating towards Guam. The vessel successfully docked at the Guam Container Terminal at 7:25 a.m. Following established emergency procedures, the captain promptly alerted the U.S. Coast Guard. Guam Customs facilitated a smooth clearance for the ship upon its arrival. As a precautionary measure, the Department of Public Health and Social Services swiftly conducted a COVID-19 test on the deceased crew member. Consequently, all operations aboard the 'Papa Mau' were temporarily halted, and the port authorities prohibited any activities on the vessel. Four nurses were escorted onboard by the port’s assistant operations manager to perform the swab test. The sample was subsequently sent to Public Health for analysis, which later confirmed that the crew member tested negative for COVID-19. It is important to note that all crew members had recently undergone COVID-19 testing and received negative results. The last port of call for the vessel was Palau, and fortunately, the incident did not cause delays for other vessels arriving at or departing from the port.
