Working Conditions Aboard the Patria-Seaways

On the evening of July 28, 2019, the ferry Patria Seaways encountered engine troubles just before its scheduled departure from Klaipeda port, destined for Karlshamn. The vessel, identified by IMO number 9334585, was initially poised to set sail but had to move to the quay of the 8th Klaipeda Stevedoring Company (Klasco) after one of its engines failed. Despite the capability to operate on a single engine, the decision was made to dock the ferry and await a technical team for repairs. Assisted by the tugboats Klasco 1 and Klasco 3, Patria Seaways finally departed the dock at approximately 11:30 p.m., running 3.5 hours late. The ferry successfully arrived at Karlshamn port around 4 p.m., completing its journey despite the delay.

A tragic accident occurred on the Patria Seaways ferry on November 25, 2013, resulting in the death of a crew member. The vessel was in transit between Kapellskär and Paldiski when the incident took place at approximately 11:25 a.m., just as it was approaching the port of Kapellskär. The crew member suffered a fatal injury after being caught on the roof of the elevator, which serves both staff and passengers. Details surrounding the incident indicate that the individual had ascended through a hatch located on the lift's roof, though the reasons behind this action remain unclear. Following the accident, assistance took some time to reach him, compounded by the ferry's imminent docking. In response to the tragedy, the Norrtäljegatan Police have commenced a formal investigation to understand the circumstances leading to this unfortunate event.

Baltic Scandinavian Lines has officially launched the 'Lisco Patria' on the Estonian-Swedish ferry route between Paldiski and Kapellskär. This service will operate daily, with the exception of Fridays. The vessel departs from the North Port of Paldiski at 12:15 AM, arriving in Sweden at 9:20 AM. The return voyage from Kapellskär is scheduled for 10:30 AM, with the ship completing its journey back to Paldiski by 10 PM the same evening. In the past, Tallink handled passenger ferry services on the Paldiski-Kapellskär route, but has now transitioned to using cargo ferries, marking a significant shift in operations.
