On October 31, 2015, Island Offshore made the strategic decision to lay up the 'Island Spirit' in Tananger due to an anticipated decline in workload prompted by a downturn in the market. With the usual operations—such as inspection, maintenance, repair, and ROV surveys—set to diminish in the coming winter months, the company opted for this action. As a consequence, some layoffs are expected among the crew due to the vessel's temporary grounding. However, there is optimism that the 'Island Spirit' may resume operations with the current crew as early as 2016. This latest lay-up adds to Island Offshore's fleet adjustments, bringing the total number of vessels laid up to six. This includes three platform supply vessels, two light well intervention vessels, and a survey vessel—all of which are expected to remain inactive during the winter season.
