Fire Erupts at Haldia Port During Coal Loading Operation
On the morning of April 27, 2019, at approximately 8:30 AM, a significant fire incident occurred at Haldia Port involving mobile harbour crane 13. The blaze erupted as coal was being loaded onto the tanker 'Pella', resulting in thick smoke enveloping the area. Local authorities quickly mobilized a response team comprising 10 fire engines to tackle the emergency, which caused widespread panic among residents nearby due to the rapid spread of the flames. Port personnel collaborated closely with firefighters, striving to bring the situation under control. Preliminary investigations suggested that a short circuit may have been the initial cause of the fire. Additionally, the nearby tanker 'Cevdet A' (IMO-No.: 9474450) was also at risk due to its proximity to the flames.
