Officials from both Chennai Port and the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) confirmed they were not notified about the sailor's death prior to the ship's departure. This oversight appears to violate Section 358 of The Merchant Shipping Act of 1958, which mandates reporting of any sailor's death. Manoj Joy of the Chaplain Sailors Society criticized this blatant disregard for regulation.
