Phuc Tuan 36 Abandoned After Cargo Shift in South China Sea Crisis
On July 7, 2021, the maritime community witnessed a dramatic incident when the 'Phuc Tuan 36' sent out a distress signal at approximately 2:30 PM Beijing time. Located east of Haikou, Hainan Island, in the South China Sea, the vessel experienced a hazardous cargo shift that resulted in a severe portside list. In light of the dangerous situation, the ship's Master and crew made the critical decision to prepare for an evacuation. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) Qinglan swiftly initiated a search and rescue operation, deploying a rescue vessel while redirecting nearby cargo ships to assist. Thankfully, all 12 crew members aboard the 'Phuc Tuan 36' were successfully rescued by the Chinese freighter 'Ren Shun Da', averting potential disaster on the high seas.
