Stena Navigator Faces Engine Issues Off Mull of Galloway, Prompting Coastguard Response

Oct 15, 2011 16:45

A maritime incident unfolded off the coast of Scotland, impacting the Stena Navigator ferry, which was en route to Northern Ireland. On Saturday, at approximately 12:50 AM, the ferry ran into engine troubles, resulting in partial propulsion failure for both of its engines while traveling from Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, to Belfast. With 70 passengers and 47 crew members aboard, the vessel found itself adrift about four nautical miles west of Corsewall Point lighthouse, located at the northern end of the Rhinns, Mull of Galloway. The Clyde Coastguard promptly responded to the situation, dispatching two Svitzer tugs, Norton Cross and Willowgarth, to assist in towing the ferry to safety. Fortunately, the crew of the Stena Navigator managed to restore function to one of the engines. Subsequently, the ferry proceeded under reduced power, accompanied by the tugs. The vessel successfully reached Belfast at roughly 4:30 AM, with all individuals aboard reported to be safe and in good health. This incident highlights the importance of swift maritime response and the resilience of ferry operations in challenging circumstances.
