The incident occurred in the afternoon, and at 2:21 p.m., the trawler sent out a Mayday distress signal to the JRCC South Norway, following a blackout that resulted in a complete power failure onboard. With a crew of eight aboard, the ship was found to be leaning at a troubling 25 degrees to starboard. In response, the rescue vessel 'Ægir' from Farsund and the tugboat 'BB Connector' from Kristiansand were dispatched to assist in the emergency. Meanwhile, two civilian vessels stood by, prepared to provide further aid if necessary. Once on scene, the crew of 'Gitte Henning' managed to rectify the listing by redistributing cargo to the port side.
