On August 30, 2025, the vessel Polar Viking found itself under detention in Gothenburg due to a total of 14 noted deficiencies. Among these, seven were categorized as serious enough to warrant the vessel's detention. Key issues included: 1) Inadequate maintenance of life-saving appliances; 2) Inoperative launching arrangements for rescue boats; 3) Damaged ventilators, air pipes, and casings, compromising water and weather tightness; 4) Insufficient pressure in the fire pump and its associated pipes; 5) Malfunctioning fire doors and openings within fire-resistant divisions; 6) Deficiencies in the fire detection and alarm system; and 7) Non-compliance with ISM certificate requirements. After subsequent inspections, the Polar Viking was released on the same day and departed the port on September 7. The tanker formerly known as 'Vinga Safir' has officially changed hands, now owned by Väderö Tank following its transfer at Falkenberg port last week. This vessel, which has been on the market for an extended period, was primarily engaged in bunker deliveries prior to the sale. Originally set for charter until May 31, 2020, the contract was canceled in April, leading to the tanker being available for sale for the past two months. Previously owned by Sol Tankers in the Faroe Islands, management of the 'Vinga Safir' was handled by Vinga Ship Management based in Donsö. In anticipation of the 'Vinga Safir's' departure, the shipping company is in the process of seeking a larger product and chemical tanker ranging between 5,000 and 10,000 dwt; however, current travel and inspection circumstances are posing challenges. Following the acquisition, the tanker has been renamed 'Akleja' but will remain flying the Faroese flag.
