Cargo Ship Stranded in Baia de Guaiba, Brazil
On March 15, the cargo vessel Pomorze found itself aground near Itapua, specifically in the do Junco channel, during its journey from Rio Grande to Porto Alegre, Brazil. The ship was carrying a significant load of 8,000 tons of ammonium nitrate and an additional 3,000 tons of urea at the time of the incident. According to local reports, the vessel’s grounding did not obstruct shipping traffic, as Pomorze had deviated from its course in an attempt to avoid a collision with another ship, suspected to be the Taiwanese bulk carrier Santa Ines (dwt 58,500, IMO 9425851). As of the morning of March 20, Pomorze remains aground at a position of 30°20'S 051°04'W, just 1 nautical mile north of Ilha do Junco.
