The U.S. Coast Guard, along with Washington's Department of Ecology, is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the recent listing incident involving the vessel 'Ranunculus' (IMO: 9293868) at a log dock situated in Tacoma’s Hylebos Waterway. Reports indicate that the ship tilted approximately 8 degrees, which raised concerns about its stability during loading operations. Fortunately, the crew has successfully managed to return the ship to an even keel. Initial assessments suggested that the listing might have been triggered by the ship touching the bottom at low tide. However, following a thorough review of the operations conducted prior to the incident and a dive team's inspection of the hull on January 25, investigators confirmed that the 'Ranunculus' remained buoyant throughout the ordeal. Divers from Global Diving and Salvage conducted a detailed examination and reported no visible damage to the ship's hull. A secondary dive is planned for January 27 during daylight to further ensure safety. In the meantime, a containment boom has been established around the vessel as a precautionary measure.
