On January 13, 2019, at approximately 6:30 AM, a maritime accident occurred in the Bintan waters of the Riau Islands, which lie at the eastern entrance to the busy Singapore Strait. The cable-laying vessel, Star Centurion (IMO: 9241712), experienced significant damage after colliding with the tanker Antea, which was traveling from Singapore to Ambon. In response to the incident, the Indonesian Navy, in collaboration with Singaporean maritime authorities, dispatched several ships to the site of the collision. All 22 crew members aboard the Star Centurion were evacuated safely and transported to safety in lifeboats. Regrettably, the cable layer capsized, nearly submerging and resting on its port side at coordinates 01° 24' N 104° 35' E within the Horsburgh OPL zone. Fortunately, the crew of the Antea remained unharmed; however, their vessel sustained considerable hull damage. Following the accident, the Antea was guided to Singaporean waters where it anchored at position 01° 24.44' N 104° 47.69' E to facilitate investigations. To maintain safety in the region and prevent further incidents, the Indonesian Navy deployed multiple vessels including the KRI Pulau Rusa, KRI Surik, and KRI Anakonda to monitor the area.
