On the morning of April 14, 2019, the U.S. Coast Guard sprang into action as a fire ignited on the bulk carrier 'Albany Sound', which was docked at Morehead Port. The blaze erupted within the superstructure of the vessel, prompting a swift response from local emergency services. The Morehead City Fire Department was on the scene, supported by the Beaufort Fire Department, Atlantic Beach EMS, Newport EMS, and Beaufort EMS. Thanks to their collective efforts, the fire was successfully brought under control by 2:30 p.m., allowing firefighters to vacate the ship. The damage was primarily limited to the crew cabins.
