Bulk Carrier 'Propel Fortune' Freed by Orissa High Court Just One Day Post Arrest

Jan 06, 2025 09:33

In a swift legal resolution, the Orissa High Court has ordered the immediate release of the bulk carrier 'Propel Fortune', which was detained at Paradip Port on December 30, 2024. The vessel, which arrived at the port on December 28, 2024, faced arrest due to outstanding dues related to the provision of necessary supplies. After a brief legal battle, the court granted the release upon the vessel's agreement to submit a demand draft of ₹15,56,100/- payable to the Registrar (Judicial) of the Court. Following the court's decision, the 'Propel Fortune' set sail from Paradip on December 31, 2024, and successfully docked in Damrah on January 1, 2025. The court ordered that the outstanding dues for provisions and services be held in an interest-bearing account until the ongoing litigation is resolved. Should the judgment favor MH Bland SL, they will receive the funds; otherwise, the amount will be returned to the 'Propel Fortune'. The court has scheduled a review of the case for January 6, 2025.

Houthis Attack Bulk Carrier Propel Fortune Near Aden, Crew Unharmed

Mar 11, 2024 10:01

On March 8, 2024, the bulk carrier 'Propel Fortune' was attacked by Houthi forces while navigating 50 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen. Fortunately, the ship and its crew remained safe throughout the ordeal. The captain reported hearing two distinct explosions occurring in front of the vessel. However, he affirmed that the ship suffered no damage and is set to continue its journey towards the next port. During this attack, the Houthis also targeted several U.S. destroyers operating in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden using a total of 37 drones. In a show of defense, the U.S. military and coalition forces successfully intercepted at least 28 of these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the early hours of March 9. Remarkably, no damage was reported among U.S. or Coalition Navy vessels, and commercial shipping operations continue without incident.
