In a startling maritime incident on June 24, 2022, the German yacht 'Skea' was involved in a collision with the ferry 'Protoporos XIII,' which was executing its Oropos-Eretria service. The accident occurred in the picturesque southern Euboean Gulf, just off the coast of Oropos. Aboard the yacht was a 67-year-old solo sailor, who was ejected into the water upon impact. Fortunately, the ferry crew responded swiftly, rescuing the sailor, who, although shaken, sustained no injuries. As a precautionary measure, he was taken to Halkida hospital for evaluation. Unfortunately, the yacht was not as fortunate, sinking shortly after the collision, while the ferry emerged unscathed. After a thorough class inspection, the 'Protoporos XIII' was cleared to resume its regular schedule on the same day.
