On January 23, 2011, the cargo vessel 'Puteri Zamrud' (IMO: 9030838) faced serious engine difficulties while navigating near Palawan, Philippines. The ship, manned by a crew of 33, was approximately 25 nautical miles from Isabel Point, Palawan, on a voyage from Bintulu, Malaysia, to Tokyo, Japan, when it encountered turbulent waters. In response to the situation, the Coast Guard Palawan promptly dispatched the 'Edsa Dos (SARV 002)' from Puerto Princesa to assist the distressed vessel. Additionally, the Coast Guard Action Center coordinated to ensure tugs were on standby for potential towing operations. Supply Oilfield Services (SOS) Inc. also took swift action, sending the 'Pacific Ariki' to provide support at 9:30 p.m. on the same day.
