Mechanical Failure Strands Qing Yun Shan Off Barranquilla
On February 25, 2019, the bulk carrier 'Qing Yun Shan' encountered a mechanical malfunction while navigating the access channel to Barranquilla's port, en route to Bocas de Ceniza. The incident temporarily obstructed the eastern fairway, leading to restrictions on maritime traffic in the area. In response, the Maritime General Directorate (DIMAR) deployed three tugboats to assist the distressed vessel, which was ultimately anchored three miles from Bocas de Ceniza at coordinates 11° 5.66' N and 074° 55.80' W. Following the incident, the Colombian Maritime Authority initiated a thorough investigation. The ship, which had arrived from Turkey carrying a significant load of 36,435 tons of clinker, was slated to dock at the Compás wharf.
