On September 12, 2020, a significant confrontation unfolded off the coast of Makassar as hundreds of fishermen and environmental activists targeted the dredger 'Queen of Netherlands.' While en route to a dredging site in the waters of Takalar Regency, the vessel faced a barrage of stones and molotov cocktails, resulting in onboard fires. In a desperate move, the protesters also severed several pneumatic cables, prompting the dredger to turn back toward Makassar.
