Rescue Operation Underway for Migrants in Cayuco Found in North Atlantic
On June 5, 2024, the 'Ramform Atlas' discovered a cayuco carrying over a hundred migrants while traveling from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, toward Pecem, located approximately 207 kilometers southwest of La Gomera. Currently, no further information has been released regarding the individuals on board. In response to this humanitarian crisis, the SAR vessel 'Guardamar Urania' was dispatched by Salvamento MarĂtimo and has since encountered two additional vessels filled with migrants. Ongoing efforts have resulted in assistance being provided to around 400 individuals, although this number remains provisional as the rescue operation continues.
RAMFORM ATLAS Docks in Ijmuiden for New North Sea Project
On March 10, 2015, the world’s largest seismic vessel, the RAMFORM ATLAS, operated by Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS), made a notable stop in the port of IJmuiden. This vessel is the second member of the impressive Titan Class, measuring an astounding 104 meters in length and featuring a beam of 70 meters at the stern, making it an exceptional asset for seismic operations. The RAMFORM ATLAS’s distinctive hull design enhances its capabilities for acquiring seismic data, utilizing a delta-shaped structure that maximizes space for extensive seismic equipment while prioritizing both workspace and safety. With an extraordinary fuel capacity, the vessel boasts the ability to conduct surveys for up to 150 days without the need to refuel, a range substantial enough to circumnavigate the globe twice. Its expansively designed back deck contributes to enhanced stability and facilitates the efficient, safe deployment and recovery of multiple streamers simultaneously, even in challenging maritime conditions. After completing its port visit, the RAMFORM ATLAS departed IJmuiden on Wednesday evening, embarking on a new project in the North Sea.
PGS Unveils Second Ramform Titan-Class Vessel, Ramform Atlas, in Nagasaki
In a grand ceremony held today in Nagasaki, Japan, Petroleum Geo-Services ASA (PGS) proudly named its second Ramform Titan-class vessel, the Ramform Atlas. This state-of-the-art 24-streamer vessel is engineered with a strong emphasis on safety, efficiency, and productivity, reflecting PGS's commitment to leading the seismic acquisition industry. The event took place at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) yard, marking a significant milestone for the company. Designed to tow a vast array of recording sensors over expansive areas exceeding 12 square kilometers—equivalent to over 3.5 times the size of Central Park—the Ramform Atlas is poised to enhance marine seismic operations. The Ramform Titan-class is renowned for being the most powerful and efficient marine seismic acquisition vessels in existence, boasting the widest design at the waterline in the world. The focus on safety and productivity was paramount during the design phase. The Ramform Atlas is the second of four vessels in this esteemed class being constructed in Japan, following the successful launch of its sister ship, the Ramform Titan, in April 2013, which has been delivering outstanding performance since its delivery.
