Celebrating the Launch of Ramform Tethys: The World's Leading Seismic Vessel
In a grand naming ceremony held last week at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipbuilding facility in Nagasaki, Japan, the Ramform Tethys was officially unveiled as the third addition to the esteemed Ramform Titan-class series. This remarkable vessel is recognized as the most powerful and efficient marine seismic acquisition ship globally, setting a new standard in the industry. Joining its predecessors, Ramform Titan and Ramform Atlas, which were delivered to PGS in 2013 and 2014 respectively, the Ramform Tethys also boasts the title of being one of the widest vessels by waterline measurement. Enhancements on the Ramform Tethys include minor modifications for optimizing equipment handling on the rear deck and an upgraded engine output, boosting the power from the previous capacity of 23,040 kW. Notably, the Ramform Tethys features mutually redundant twin engine rooms that deliver a potent total of 26.4 megawatts, which drives three innovative 6,000 kW controlled pitch propellers. This powerful configuration empowers the vessel to effectively tow a complete array of dual-sensor recording systems while utilizing just two of these propellers, highlighting its efficiency and cutting-edge engineering.
