An incident of marine pollution occurred on February 3, 2024, involving the livestock carrier 'Rami M', which contaminated approximately 150 square meters of water with oil-based painting materials. At the time of the incident, the vessel, which is registered under IMO number 1234567, was docked at the PPC pier in Keratsini, Piraeus, with 39 crew members aboard. The pollution stemmed from the crew's maintenance work, during which they applied oil paint to a section of the ship’s exterior. Following the incident, the ship's Master and crew undertook decontamination efforts, which were successfully completed under their supervision. However, the Master has since been placed under administrative detention by the Port Department of Keratsini, which has initiated a preliminary inquiry into the matter. This action was taken in accordance with Article 3 of Law 743/77, as stipulated by P.D. 55/98, concerning the protection of the marine environment.
