Semco Salvage Successfully Refloats Bulk Carrier Alam Manis After Extended Operations
In a commendable effort, Semco Salvage & Towage, a subsidiary of POSH, has successfully refloated the bulk carrier "Alam Manis" following a series of unsuccessful attempts over a span of ten days. The incident occurred on February 15 when the vessel ran aground on the Saya De Malha Bank in the Indian Ocean. Following its refloat, the Alam Manis is now set to head to Pipavav for thorough inspections. The total costs incurred for the salvage operation amounted to approximately $800,000.
Bulk Carrier Alam Manis Strands Again in Troubled Waters
The bulk carrier Alam Manis has once again found itself in a precarious situation, running aground on February 2, 2017, at coordinates 09Β°43'S 061Β°18'E in the Cargados Carajos Shoals, located to the NNE of Mauritius. At the time of the incident, the vessel was making its way from Richards Bay to Pipava. A salvage operation is already in the works, with reports indicating that Five Oceans has been contracted for the task. This incident marks a troubling repeat for the Alam Manis, which had previously grounded on July 17, 2015, near Luzon Island amid rough weather conditions. Salvage efforts conducted by Singapore-based Semco Salvage & Towage began four weeks after that grounding incident. Salvage Operation Underway to Refloat Grounded 'Alam Manis' in Ilocos Sur
Efforts have officially begun to rescue the grounded bulk carrier 'Alam Manis,' which found itself stranded off the coast of Candon, Ilocos Sur, on July 17. The vessel was carrying a substantial cargo of 53,795 metric tonnes of nickel ore when it experienced a severe list to starboard due to rough weather conditions, approximately 225 nautical miles from Taiwan, as it made its way from Loreto Dinagat to Lianyungang. Tragically, Henry Libo-on, the ship's first mate, passed away from a heart attack shortly after the grounding incident. Thankfully, the remaining crew of 20 Filipino sailors along with the captain were successfully rescued. To facilitate the salvage process, the Singaporean company Semco Salvage & Towage has been engaged, and the specialized tug 'Salviscount' from POSH Terasea Offshore has joined the operation. This vessel will assist in towing the 'Alam Manis' to the nearest safe port in San Fernando, located in North Luzon.
