The incident occurred on March 31, 2018, when the ship collided with a pipeline, leading to a catastrophic oil spill and subsequent fire that resulted in the tragic loss of five lives and significant harm to marine ecosystems. Following the trial, the court found the captain guilty of breaching Law No. 32/2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management. In addition to the prison sentence, the captain has also been fined approximately 949,246 USD, highlighting the serious repercussions of environmental negligence.
