Working Conditions Aboard the Raunefjord

On the morning of April 13, 2017, the ferry 'Raunefjord' faced a significant technical issue, resulting in an engine failure shortly after embarking on its journey. The vessel departed from Sandvikvåg at 9:15 a.m. heading towards Halhjem, but encountered engine trouble just one hour into the trip while navigating through the bay. After experiencing a temporary halt, the 'Raunefjord' was able to resume its voyage to Halhjem, albeit at a reduced speed. In the meantime, all scheduled departures from Halhjem were postponed until further notice.

On the evening of September 4, 2015, at 7 p.m., the 'Raunefjord,' an ambulance boat from Austevoll, along with the lifeboat 'Askerbæringen' from Kleppestø, sprang into action after a distress call regarding a cabin cruiser that had run aground. The incident occurred close to the ferry dock in Halhjem and involved two adults and two children aboard the pleasure boat. A nearby smaller pleasure craft initially came to their aid as the cabin cruiser took on water. In response to the emergency, the lifeboat arrived on the scene approximately one hour post-alert and stayed on standby until a crane could successfully refloat the vessel. On July 16, 2015, a ferry mishap occurred when the 'Raunefjord' inadvertently left almost 20 vehicles on board after neglecting to disembark them at the intended stop. The ferry, which operates between Halhjem and Sandvikvåg, had to make an unexpected turn to return to the wharf. It was only after vigilant passengers alerted the crew of the oversight that the ferry made its way back to the ferry port to rectify the situation.
