Ray Detained in Alexandria for Multiple Deficiencies

Feb 05, 2025 22:23

On January 14, 2025, the cargo vessel 'Ray' was detained in Alexandria due to severe deficiencies, totaling 16 noted issues, seven of which warranted immediate detention. The key problems identified include serious labor conditions where wage payments were not being met, structural integrity concerns with hull damage affecting seaworthiness, and improperly maintained life-saving appliances such as rescue boats. Additionally, safety navigation issues were present, notably an inoperative radar system, as well as radio communication failures with the INMARSAT Ship Earth Station also not functioning. Furthermore, propulsion and auxiliary machinery faced shortcomings, with the main engine and auxiliary machinery failing to meet required standards. After addressing these issues, the vessel was released from detention on February 4, 2025, but it remains stationary in Alexandria for the time being. Prior to this incident, the 'Ray' experienced detentions on July 15, 2024, in Tuapse, where it faced 11 deficiencies and was held for four days, and on January 11, 2024, in Elevsis, with 19 deficiencies leading to a 12-day detention.
