Djibouti Authorities Investigate 'Red Sea 1' for Suspected Arms Trafficking

Mar 17, 2020 10:20

The Djibouti Security Service has raised alarms regarding the cargo vessel 'Red Sea 1', which is suspected of being involved in arms trafficking activities in the Gulf of Aden. Authorities believe that the ship has been manipulating its tracking records to conceal its port visits to Puntland, Somalia, and Yemen. Despite making regular calls to Djibouti, tracking data indicates that the vessel has only registered Djibouti port calls since March 2019. The diverse crew onboard consists of individuals from Georgia, Cameroon, Romania, Russia, and local nationals. Notably, on March 16, 2020, at 7:10 a.m., 'Red Sea 1' docked at the Djibouti General Cargo & CFS Terminals, prompting further scrutiny from law enforcement officials.

Red Sea Bunkering Introduces Advanced Bunker Barge Red Sea 1 in Djibouti

Jan 31, 2017 17:11

In a significant event for the maritime industry, Red Sea Bunkering, based in Djibouti, has unveiled its latest addition to the fleet, the bunker barge Red Sea 1. This momentous occasion was graced by H.E Ismael Omar Guelleh, the President of Djibouti. Highlighting the strategic importance of Djibouti as a vital bunkering hub, it was recalled that the region processed an impressive 1.8 million tons of fuel back in 1968. The newly launched Red Sea 1 boasts a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 9,600 and offers a total product capacity of around 10,000 cubic meters (CBM). Designed for efficiency and performance, it's outfitted with three powerful cargo pumps, each delivering 500 CBM per hour, along with a bow thruster and a capable stern manifold. This state-of-the-art vessel is expected to enhance the operational capabilities of Red Sea Bunkering and meet the growing demands of the regional maritime sector.
