Tallink-Helsinki Line Transfers 'Regal Star' to Ams Line Shipping Co.

Aug 06, 2025 13:03

In a strategic move to optimize its fleet in response to evolving market demands, Tallink Grupp's subsidiary, Tallink-Helsinki Line Ltd., has completed the sale of the vessel 'Regal Star' to Ams Line Shipping Co., a company based in Turkey. The official handover of the ferry took place on August 6, 2025. Prior to its sale, the 'Regal Star' serviced the popular route between Paldiski and Kapellskär. In February 2025, operations on this route transitioned to the m/v 'Star I', which was later substituted by the 'Superfast IX', now facilitating both freight and passenger car transport. According to Paavo Nõgene, CEO of Tallink Grupp, this sale is a part of the ongoing fleet optimization to align with current market conditions. Since June 25, the 'Regal Star' has been docked in Tallinn, awaiting its new journey under Ams Line's ownership.

Storm Causes Truck Incident Aboard Regal Star Ferry

Dec 04, 2018 12:34

On the night of November 29, 2018, a turbulent storm struck while the 'Regal Star' ferry was en route from Paldiski to Kapellskär. As strong winds rocked the vessel, several trucks on the cargo deck began to shift, leading to a significant incident where one truck overturned. The mishap was attributed to an inadequately secured load, which caused a metal structure from one truck to collapse onto another truck carrying concrete panels, resulting in its overturning. Upon the ferry's arrival at Kapellskär, which took place two hours later than initially scheduled, the overturned truck was promptly lifted and pulled onto the quay. Despite the delay, the ferry’s departure was on time after an additional cargo securing check was conducted by the crew. In response to the severe weather conditions, the crew made a critical decision to exclude trucks carrying large concrete structures from boarding. Lighthouse Remmargrund Salvaged After Collision with Regal Star

Nov 05, 2018 12:55

In a recent maritime incident, the 'Regal Star' collided with the Remmargrund lighthouse on October 30. Following this unfortunate event, the Swedish Maritime Administration's work vessel, 'Fyrbjörn,' undertook a thorough inspection and successfully salvaged various parts of the damaged lighthouse. In the wake of the destruction, a temporary firelight has been established to ensure ongoing navigational safety, while a new ViVa station is now operational. Divers assessed the situation and confirmed that the lighthouse's foundational structure remains stable; however, significant repairs were necessary for the above-water components, prompting the recovery of the tower and other sections that had fallen into the sea during the collision. Additionally, due to damages incurred by the collision, the Swedish Maritime Administration, in collaboration with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), has implemented the Söderarm station. This new station provides valuable meteorological data, including wind force, average wind speed, air humidity, and air temperature. Users can access this information through the ViVa app, the Swedish Maritime Administration's website, and via AIS (Automatic Identification System). A navigation warning has been issued for the area: SVENSK NAV VARN 199 / 18 NORRA ÖSTERSJÖN, noting the 'background' reflector functions of the jeweler's signal are missing, posing a potential hazard. The warning is specific to coordinates PSN 59-45.52N 019-19.00E. Regal Star Encounter Distress Near Kapellskär

Oct 30, 2018 14:08

On October 30, 2018, the ferry "Regal Star" experienced a significant operational challenge shortly after setting sail from Kapellskär to Paldiski at 9:30 AM. At approximately 10:15 AM, the vessel suffered a blackout near the Remmargrund lighthouse in the fairway northeast of Kapellskär, causing it to lose control and strike a post, which was subsequently dislodged. Following the incident, the captain deployed the anchor to stabilize the ship while awaiting a tug's assistance. A total of 38 individuals were on board during the mishap, which included 11 passengers and 27 crew members. By 11:45 AM, help arrived as the tug "Montfred" (MMSI: 265703540) and the lifeboat "Rescue Stenhammar" from SSRS Räfsnäs reached the scene. The tug successfully connected with the Regal Star, preventing further drift towards the shore amidst challenging conditions characterized by strong winds of about 20 m/s and wave heights ranging from 2 to 3 meters. In the evening hours, the vessel was scheduled to be towed back to safety at Kapellskär, accompanied by the anti-pollution vessel "KBV 031" which monitored the situation for potential environmental concerns. By 6:45 PM, the Regal Star had safely arrived at port. As a result of this incident, its departures have been canceled until November 2, with Tallink assuring that they will reach out to all passengers affected by these cancellations.
