On November 15, 2012, at 6:00 a.m., the tugboat 'Amber' encountered a serious engine failure while departing from the Tilbury Power Station. The vessel’s mishap led it aground upstream of the Port of London Authority’s (PLA) Denton Wharf after colliding with several moorings attached to barges and other tugs. The PLA promptly took charge of the situation from their London Port Control Centre located in Gravesend. A PLA harbor service launch was dispatched to the scene, accompanied by the dedicated team from PLA Marine Services, who focused on safely re-securing the adrift barge and the tugboats 'Recruit' and 'Mersina'. By 8:45 a.m., the 'Amber' was successfully re-floated and subsequently docked at Tilbury Landing Stage. Following inspections, the vessel proceeded to Tilbury Dock for necessary repairs in the afternoon. Thankfully, the previously adrift tugs and barge were secured without further incident. However, the 'Mersina' remains on the Denton Slipway, sustaining damages to its shaft, while the 'Recruit' faces the possibility of being deemed a total loss. The 'Amber' resumed operations, leaving Tilbury once again on November 30.
