This innovative cable, which has played a role in connecting the UK to Santander, Spain, had been out of commission for the past eight years. Remarkably, it has been repurposed for this project, which carries an estimated cost of £3.7 million, funded primarily by the EU and BT under the ambitious £132 million Superfast Cornwall Initiative. Over the past week, the skilled team aboard the cable ship CS Resolute has expertly cut the cable south of the islands and redirected a portion towards St Mary's. By lunchtime today, the Harbourmaster’s boat, Pegasus, will assist in bringing the cable ashore. Once activated later this year, this connection promises to deliver a remarkable upgrade, surpassing the current microwave link with Cornwall.
