Detained Ship 'Reymar' Overloaded, Faces Fines and Delays
On January 31, 2018, at 6:05 AM, water police officers in Brunsbüttel discovered the 'Reymar' positioned unusually deep in the water during a routine inspection. Their assessment confirmed their suspicions of overloading, prompting the transport and traffic management association to impose a sailing prohibition. The vessel was found to be surpassing the maximum draught by eleven centimeters, which equated to an overloading of approximately 122 metric tons. The 'Reymar', which was carrying 5,000 tons of limestone, was making its journey from Bilbao to Tornio at that time. Following the incident, an administrative offense report was filed against the ship's captain, who was required to pay a safety fine. After being held until 7:45 PM, the ship was eventually allowed to proceed and made its way to Kiel, where it docked at East Shore Port on February 1 at 2:15 AM. The vessel resumed its journey on February 2 at 5:30 PM after adjustments to its draught, aiming to arrive in Tornio by February 6 at 5 PM.
