UK Deploys Ships to Combat Human Trafficking in the Aegean Sea
In a decisive move to address the ongoing migrant crisis, the United Kingdom is set to deploy essential military resources to support a NATO operation aimed at curbing people smuggling in the Aegean Sea. Prime Minister David Cameron announced that the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Mounts Bay, an amphibious landing ship equipped with a Wildcat helicopter, will be dispatched prior to an emergency European Union summit in Brussels. More than one million migrants illegally entered the EU by boat, largely journeying from Turkey to Greece last year. The RFA Mounts Bay will collaborate with two UK Border Force patrol boats, referred to as cutters, and will join forces with naval vessels from Germany, Canada, Turkey, and Greece. This initiative marks NATO's inaugural intervention in the escalating migrant crisis.
