On January 12, 2019, the fish carrier 'Ringaskjær' encountered a perilous situation after running aground on a rocky area between Hekkingen and Senja. The vessel, which had departed from Skjervøy on January 11 at 8:20 a.m., suffered significant water ingress following the grounding. Prompt action was taken as the ship was carrying a substantial cargo of 300 tons of herring. Rescue operations commenced swiftly, with the cargo being removed within hours to alleviate flooding concerns. The NSSR boat played a critical role as the 'Ringaskjær' was refloated using its own propulsion system. As uncertainty lingered, a fleet of four boats and a helicopter were deployed to assist.
