Rix Atlantic Grounds Near Kolding: Full Recovery Achieved
On May 7, 2019, the cargo vessel 'Rix Atlantic' found itself in a precarious situation when it ran aground just outside Drejens at approximately 5:25 a.m., pinpointed at coordinates 55° 29.61' N and 009° 34.95' E. The ship, which was on a route originating from Klaipeda (having departed on May 4), was destined for Kolding, with an estimated time of arrival on the same day and carrying a shipment of maize. Authorities are currently delving into the reasons behind the grounding, with preliminary investigations suggesting that the captain may have misinterpreted navigational charts, resulting in a late turn that led the vessel into a sandbar. In response to the incident, the Danish tugboat 'Valdemar' (IMO: 8108121) was dispatched from Fredericia at 7:20 a.m. on May 8. The tug arrived alongside the stranded vessel by midday. Following successful salvage operations, 'Rix Atlantic' was refloated later that afternoon. After conducting necessary inspections on the hull, the ship was escorted to Kolding, where it successfully berthed at the South Quay on May 8 at 7:40 p.m. The vessel continued its journey on May 10, departing at 3:50 p.m. towards Frederiksad, where it arrived at the container terminal at 9:15 p.m. on May 11.
