Cargo Ship 'Neptun' Rescued After Engine Failure Near Borkum
In a dramatic maritime incident on February 2, 2013, at approximately 1 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Neptun' experienced a critical engine failure while drifting southwest of Borkum. The 'Neptun' had set sail from the Emder Werft und Dockbetriebe at 7 p.m. the previous evening when it succumbed to the powerful tide currents. The situation prompted a swift response from the lifeboat 'Hannes Glogner' dispatched from the DGzRS station in Borkum. Fortunately, the crew aboard 'Neptun' managed to restart their engine before the lifeboat could reach them. Following the successful restart, the cargo ship continued its journey back to Emden, escorted by tugboats. The vessel safely docked at Ems Quay on February 2 at 11:30 p.m. Before concluding its maintenance period, 'Neptun' returned to the Emder Dockyard on February 4, around midday.
