On June 8, 2020, a 32-year-old Russian seafarer from the 'Rix Stream' went missing in Lubmin, prompting an urgent search. After failing to return to the vessel, authorities located him in Greifswald, where he had been struggling with mental health issues resulting from an extended seven-month stay on board the ship. Initially contracted for a four-month assignment, his time onboard was unexpectedly prolonged due to pandemic restrictions. The rescue services received a report about a distressed individual in a nearby park, leading police to make contact with him via phone. Upon discovery, he exhibited symptoms of an elevated temperature and was subsequently evaluated at the University Hospital in Greifswald, where a COVID-19 infection was ruled out. Investigating authorities found that he was facing potential charges related to illegal immigration, however, he was issued a transit visa the same day and returned to Russia, ending his challenging ordeal at sea.

On October 24, 2017, a maritime incident occurred involving the cargo ship "Atria" and the tugboat "Flemhude" along the Wismar fairway, close to Poel Island. At the time of the collision, the "Atria" was heading toward the port of Wismar, while the "Flemhude" was navigating northward outside the designated fairway. Despite VHF communications exchanged between the crews of both vessels, they unfortunately collided in the narrow passage. The incident resulted in significant damage to the tugboat, with a four-meter-long dent affecting the wheelhouse and hull. The "Atria" also sustained bow damage from the encounter. In response to the collision, the water police of Wismar initiated an investigation into the events leading up to the crash. Following the incident, both vessels docked at the port of Wismar, where they were detained until they could be deemed seaworthy once again. The "Atria" was permitted to resume its journey to Falkenberg on October 25 at 6 p.m., arriving at its destination at 5 p.m. on October 26. Meanwhile, the "Flemhude" was docked at berth 12 in Wismar and departed shortly after midnight on October 31, making its way to Marstal Vaerft A/S for necessary repairs, where it arrived at 8:20 a.m.
