Cargo Ship NBP Voyager Finds Refuge in Cee After Cargo Shift Incident

Feb 27, 2015 09:20

On February 25 at 8 a.m., the cargo vessel NBP Voyager docked at Cee port in Corcubion following a significant cargo shift that occurred approximately 280 miles east of Bordeaux in the Bay of Biscay on February 23-24. The ship, which was transporting 7,000 tons of securely packed sawn timber, experienced a dangerous portside list after its deck cargo shifted due to the failure of the cargo holding poles. Unfortunately, this situation resulted in some of the deck cargo being lost overboard. Subsequently, the crew was compelled to redirect the vessel to the nearest port for the safe re-stowing of the remaining cargo. At Cee, a compact harbor crane, well-equipped for handling timber, worked tirelessly throughout the day to assist in the removal of the shipments. Storm-Related Cargo Shift Forces Action on NBP Voyager

Feb 26, 2015 10:47

On the night of February 23-24, 2015, the cargo of the "NBP Voyager" encountered critical instability as it journeyed from Riga to Corcubion. Approximately 280 nautical miles west of Bordeaux, between Ushant and Cape Finisterre, severe weather conditions led to parts of the vessel's timber cargo becoming dislodged. To ensure the vessel's stability amidst 8 to 10-meter swells, crews had to offload around 80 packs of timber. In response to the incident, French customs conducted two aerial surveillance missions on February 24 and 25, monitoring the location of the drifting wooden planks approximately 250 miles off the coast. Throughout this emergency, updates were shared with the MRCC Madrid via the CROSS Etel. On February 25, the maritime prefect of the Atlantic reached out to the Bockstiegel Reederei, based in Emden, urging prompt action to alleviate the navigational hazard posed by the incident.
